We were driven to complete the boys' dormitory to enable
the boys to move in during the evening. Focused on
completing the remaining tasks, we didn't realize that
the boys had other plans.
Around 3:00 p.m., they would not be held back any
longer. Broad smiles showing the joy in their hearts,
these young men charged up the stairs with their beds
and mattresses. What a privilege this mission team
had – to witness the fruits of the labors of so many
others who had served these orphans through
The James Fund.

A really joyful moment for me was when I walked into Casa Hogar Douglas for the first time and two little girls came running up to me and grabbed my legs and each one grabbed one of my hands. They just wanted to cruise around with me and show me where they lived. They wouldn't let go the whole time we were there.

Our first day [at the Casa Hogar], we toured the grounds and met many of the children. We were shown where the teenage boys lived. Our hearts were saddened by the poor living conditions these boys were staying in. During a cookout with the kids, I found a little boy named Carlos who was sitting alone and crying. We couldn't understand what he was saying so we didn't know what was wrong with him. I went over and picked him up, not sure of how he would respond. When I sat down with him, he laid his head on my shoulder and put his arms around me. I started rocking him back and forth and just cuddled him like I would one of my own boys. After a few minutes he quit crying and just stayed sitting in my lap, I had so many different emotions at that moment.
I felt love for someone I didn't even know. It's the kind of love that God gives to us. I also felt sad that this little boy did not have his mother to hold and comfort him when he was sad or hurt.

Upon arriving, we gathered under the Palapa (covered patio) and Edgar, the director of the children's home, announced that [The James Fund] was donating 11,000 pesos ($1,000) per month for the next 12 months, to the children's home. After this announcement, we gathered closer for praise and worship. A boy wrapped his arms around me and hugged me the whole time. A little girl held my hand. The children took turns praising God with their hands lifted up to the Lord. I do not know what they were saying but I could feel their love for Christ in the passionate sounds of their voices. These children are truly blessed with the love of Christ in their hearts.
